Moxifloxacin 0.5% / Loteprednol 0.5% eye drops

The combination of Moxifloxacin + Loteprednol etabonate ophthalmic suspension is commonly prescribed to treat bacterial eye infections while simultaneously controlling ocular inflammation. It combines a broad-spectrum antibiotic with a corticosteroid.

Mechanism of action

  • Moxifloxacin 0.5%

    • A fourth-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic.

    • Inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, leading to rapid bacterial death.

    • Effective against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative ocular pathogens.

  • Loteprednol etabonate (0.2%, 0.5%, or formulation-specific strength)

    • A "soft steroid" designed to reduce inflammation with a lower risk of raising intraocular pressure than many traditional corticosteroids.

    • Suppresses inflammatory mediators, reducing redness, pain, swelling, and photophobia.
