Predsight Eye Drops

Prednisolone acetate 1% ophthalmic suspension is a potent topical corticosteroid widely used to control ocular inflammation. It is considered one of the most effective steroids for treating inflammation involving both the anterior segment and intraocular tissues.

 

Mechanism of Action ​Prednisolone acetate:

• Inhibits phospholipase A2, reducing the production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes.

• Suppresses inflammatory cell migration and cytokine release.

• Reduces redness, pain, swelling, and cellular infiltration.

 

Indications

• Post-operative inflammation (e.g., after cataract surgery)

• Anterior uveitis (iritis/iridocyclitis)

• Allergic and inflammatory conjunctivitis

• Keratitis (non-infectious)

• Episcleritis and scleritis (as adjunctive therapy)

• Corneal inflammation following injury or surgery

 

Ocular Penetration

•  One of the key advantages of prednisolone acetate is its excellent corneal penetration.

• The acetate ester is highly lipophilic, allowing it to penetrate the intact corneal epithelium much better than water-soluble corticosteroids.

• After crossing the cornea, ocular esterases convert it into active prednisolone.

• It achieves therapeutically effective concentrations in the aqueous humor, making it highly effective for anterior chamber inflammation, including anterior uveitis.

• Compared with prednisolone sodium phosphate, prednisolone acetate provides superior intraocular penetration through an intact cornea
